Sleep Problems
In digital age one of the most common problems seen across different age groups is sleeplessness. An individual may have difficulty settling to sleep, maintaining sound sleep and does not wake up fresh, which in turn also effects energy levels throughout the day.
They might find it hard to sleep if they are using screen for longer durations, worried, drinking too much tea or coffee, cola or energy drinks, or are using illegal drugs. Some will just get into the habit of going to sleep very late. After a while, they find that they can’t get to sleep at an earlier time. Sleep problems might include nightmares, sleep walking, sleep talking, thrashing limbs, teeth grinding (known as parasomnias). Sleep problems can result from excessive worry, by trauma, by bullying and by abuse of any kind. For some individuals sleep problems happen only occasionally. They are not serious and get better on their own, with time. If they don’t, you need to take them seriously.
If not treated appropriately inability to get sound sleep can be upsetting, they may interfere with individual’s functioning and performance. There may be an underlying health problem, physical or mental. Sometimes, difficulty in sleeping is part of depression. A mental health professional can screen and pinpoint reason behind sleep problems and will help you to develop appropriate coping skills.
